Telecoms Broker Saves Businesses Money

January 25th, 2010

Simon Telecom’s success is based on finding its client the best telecoms solution at the best price.

As Simon Telecom earns an introductory payment from the telecoms service provider (who offers the best value solution), Simon Telecom does not charge its client anything for its services.

Simon Telecom only gets paid if and when it successfully introduces a client to one of its many telecom service partners.

Simon Telecom is a totally independent telecoms broker and is not tied to any one telecoms provider.

Nine Ways IT Outsourcing Can Enhance (or Damage!) Your Business

January 22nd, 2010

Although my business www.simontele.com  is focused on providing independent and impartial advice to UK based SMEs and charities on how to reduce their telecoms spend, I’m also interested in ways businesses can reduce complexity and cost within their IT environment.

An area that’s gaining in popularity is “shared computing resources” or “cloud computing”.  In simple terms, it’s finding an IT partner that you can trust to manage your IT requirements on your behalf and who offers the following:

  • technical resources and certifications
  • secure environment with built-in disaster recovery
  • experience with similar businesses to your own
  • a cost structure that makes it an attractive alternative to managing in-house
  • service levels with pre-defined penalties for failure
  • managed exit clause in case things don’t work out!

One company that meets the above criteria and that I have had the pleasure of dealing with is IsUtility® Houston IT Consulting:

IsUtility® Houston computer services is a proactive shift in the way IT resources are realized and used. They eliminate the need for businesses like yours to purchase, manage and support a complex IT infrastructure. Instead, they provide computer services with all the resources you need for one predictable monthly fee.

I have attached an interesting article written by IsUtility, titled “Nine Ways IT Outsourcing Can Enhance (or Damage!) Your Business”. IsUtility.pdf

International Conferencing Options for UK Businesses

January 11th, 2010

I carried out a comparison of audio and web conferencing suppliers able to offer international solutions to UK businesses, charities and not for profits.

This comparison was carried out at the request of an international charity based in the UK. The charity asked me to investigate and identify the best value audio and web conferencing options available today.

Summary

As a charity operating internationally, with offices in UK, Sierra Leone, Tanzania, Zimbabwe, South Africa, Nepal, India and Zambia, they have a need to regularly hold meetings and exchange information between charity members and offices.

For example, the senior management meeting takes place quarterly between the UK (5 people), India (1 person) and Zambia (1 person). This meeting is normally conducted using Skype, a low-cost, voice over internet (VoIP) service. Skype uses the public internet to carry these calls. Where internet bandwidths are limited, as typically found in developing countries, the quality of Skype calls can be poor and users may experience periods of unavailability or call drop outs.

In addition to improving the quality of voice conferencing, there is also a growing need to share information (e.g. reports, presentations, training) in a more collaborative way between charity members and offices, in order to improve efficiency and to make the charity more effective.

Review the (telecoms) market and save

December 21st, 2009

I’m assuming that, like me, most people review their annual renewal requests for car, pet, house and contents insurance and, if the quote seems higher than normal, check the market (or surf the internet!) for a better deal.

It always amazes me that, with so many other competing companies and the ease of shopping around, the current insurance provider doesn’t try harder to keep its existing customers.

It also surprises me that UK businesses don’t spend more time reviewing their telecoms contracts to ensure that they are getting value for money. When I was working at Global Crossing I met one customer who had been with another US telecoms provider (ask me privately if you would like to know who!) for 11 years. When asked to provide the customer with new international network pricing, it came to light that Global Crossing’s pricing was more than 50% less than their existing provider. In the end the customer decided to stay with their existing provider, but it makes you wonder for how many years had they been overcharged?

I think this is all part of customer service. If you have a customer, you should ensure that year-on-year they obtain value for money. It also makes good business sense, as both customer loyalty and customer referrals would increase.

If you would like to know what Simon Telecom can do for your business or charity then please get in touch. In summary, I can independently and impartially review the telecoms market on your behalf, to ensure you are not paying too much for your telecoms. I promise you one thing, I take customer service and customer satisfaction very seriously indeed.

“The purpose of business is to create and keep a customer”. Peter F.Drucker (American Educator and Writer, b.1909)

“There is only one boss. The customer. And he can fire everybody in the company from the chairman on down, simply by spending his money somewhere else”. Sam Walton (American retail Executive and Founder of Wal-Mart Stores Inc, the largest retail sales chain in the United States. 1918-1992)
